Welcome to Locally Speaking. This blog lies at the intersection of social and local. Where the lessons of traditional methods of local marketing are considered educational not obsolete and the future impact of social media on building a small business is considered an opportunity not an obstacle.
My name is Tom Connors. I have been fortunate to work for the past 6 years with major brands across the country on their local PR and marketing efforts and have been able to see first hand the successes and challenges that they have enjoyed and overcome. Over the past year, our clients have been more and more interested in incorporating social media into their local marketing plans. What has been interesting to us is that we see this as an evolution of what they have already been doing and not a complete shift in thinking. In other words, the basic principles of marketing still apply. This blog will attempt to encapsulate the changes in the media landscape and the “new” thinking being applied by smart organizations all over the country in relation to local marketing, while keeping an eye on the hard-won lessons of the past.
